China invests heavily in food security world wide

"Food for every ones table and every homes"

Bill Gates, one of the wealthiest men in USA, invests heavily in farmlands

"Food for every ones table and every homes"

We have not interviewed Bill Gates, or we are not that close but he is one of the smartest guy in the planet (why he is very rich) for having invested that much in farmlands.  When US currency is debased, the guy to whom we run to is the one who produce the food.  Stacks of cash and gold which we can not eat, are nothing -  valueless. But farmlands producing tons of food will be valuable in case of economic crash.

In the 1900, people divested themselves of farmlands which caused them penury.   And now.

If Bill Gates is doing the smartest thing, why shouldnt govts and other rich people do the same

Smart eh...

Billions plundered could have been used to fund food security project

"Food for every ones table and every homes"

The country could have invested the flood control plunder into food security project.    The state should look for the future of food for the masses  Instead what do the leaders do-  enrich the people.   The goal is not the money or wealth but productivity.  (as the  Scriptures have said)   Having more money in possession is not the goal, but to make money produce more food. Money or gold or any currency are only medium of exchange -  to purchase cap ex to better our lives.

Currency are debased and lose value:  but having tracts of land planted to rice and corn, having cattle etc is a better alternative now compared to having stacks of cash in your house.  They cant be eaten.

Update on food security. Reposted

"Food for every ones table and every homes" It is more fun criticizing

Food security in the Philippines

We think the govt is strict about food security.   We are a developer and they are very slow on acting
on land conversion.

More can be done regarding food security:

1.   Supply and demand projection, and planting and production schedules

2.  Tariff protection

3.  Improvement of infrastructures:   and inputs:

    1.  fertilizer and seeds
    2.  Fingerlings, piglets, and cattle
    3.  Strengthening what exists and making them work
    4.  Cold storage
    5.  Solar pumps
    6   Post harvest facilities
    7.  Supply chain
    8.  MBA in Agri courses

4.  Scientific farming:

   1.  Greenhouses, with irrigation
   2.  High value added crops
   3.  Hydrophonics and drip

5,  Corporate farming

It is good that some big companies like MVP group are paying attention to food security.   However their is with high value coco products:   MCTs and buko juice.

Finally Jollibee Food Corporation chicken plant made profit

The CP farms of Thailand have been doing good in the Philippines

6.  Adoption of new technologyies

    Substitute for rice

More notes on food security from a contractor whose parents are bakeros

"Food for every ones table and every homes"

Rizal Philippines
April 16, 2016

I conversed with a contractor from an island province in Mimaropa and we had interesting conversation at a buffet resto in Atrium of Megamall on food security and food production:

1.  Many farmers who are into citrus are converting to rice farming;

2. For citrus farming, you can raise sheep (where do you get them.  Can may uncle sell him sheep)

3.  He tried to learn about chicken and cattle raising but was never successful.  He makes more money on construction

4.  He discussed the new way of marketing tilapia which are in aquarium and delivered in tanks (done all ready in Bulacan and Pampanga)  It seems to very popular.  Like in seafood restaurants where you select your catch and have it cooked.   You  get fresh tilapia from aquarium tanks.

5.  He is trying to convince his children to engage in food production and food production.  Food security is now a major concern of the world, what with growing population and El Nino. For meat processing, you need mostly slicers.

6.  He lost two Bower goats which he bought for his father in law because he did not know the unique needs of the imported breed.

7.  For eggs, because of the high cost of feed, it is better to buy them from Batangas wholesale, cheap than have them in MIndoro.

8.  The Chinese farmers who dominate Mindoro poultry have their own feed mill and control corn supply from Occ. Min.

9.  He nearly married into the family of the mayor of Padre Garcia Bat. which is now the cattle trading capital of the Philippines.

Your food security is your concern

Survivalist

From NY times - self reliance

Food security is every body's concern.  In an event of a war, catastrophe, typhoon, earthquake, you must be able to survive the catastrophe for at least a week;  therefore you must be ready:

1.  Have a store of bottled water, candies, sugar, biscuits and canned goods.

2.  Plant camote for its tops, malunggay, and other vegies which can be source of your food and nutrition. Even if you live in urban jungle, you can plant in pots, empty cans and basin.

In an event of catastrophe, your credit card and cash cant do you a thing.  They are useless.  In most probability, the markets have been looted dry of goods.    Better still, if you can invest in livestock and vegie farms.

The ants are better than most of us in food security preparation.  Go to the survivalist site and learn more from them

"For the next several minutes, Douglas talked about emergency preparedness, sustainable living and financial security — what he called the three pillars of self-reliance. He detailed the importance of solar panels, gardens, water storage and food stockpiles. People shouldn’t just have 72-hour emergency kits for when the power grid goes down; they should learn how to live on their own. It’s a message that Douglas is trying to move from the fringe to the mainstream."

HIgh weight gains is possible using the wonder grass

Delivery of cattle from cattle dispersal program of BAI

Food security and livelihood need not be problem with the resources available to an ordinary farmer:

1.  Free food from wonder grass;
2.  Cattle on loan from BAI (all you to do is to repay with with two offsprings of not less than 150 kg. under the Cattle Dispersal Act RA 4096 of 1964.  Why is this not being widely utilized?

Some are using taking advantage of this more than others?
Some have problems with access or knowledge?

But high weight gain can be achieved as much as 0.85 kg per day using the wonder grass:

Thus Jen Jen (Martial) or a typical farmer can be wealthy and prosperous just like my uncle, For as long as you love raising animals.  And help solve our food security, and poverty.  Farmers need not be poor

These cattle came from a 30 day quarantine in Milagros Masbate of JADECO Farms

What is the scenario if we ran out of food? Food insecurity

"Food for every ones table and every homes"

From Rappler Food insecurity in the Philippines - 36% of the adult Filipinos are food insecure

What is food security?

The 1996 World Food Summit defined food security as the state “when all people, at all times, have physical and economic access to sufficient, safe, and nutritious food that meets their dietary needs and food preferences for an active and healthy life.”  (from Rappler

What is the state of food security in the Philippines?

"More than a quarter of Filipino adults (36%) claimed to be food insecure, while 23% of Filipino children said the same in the latest National Nutrition Survey (NNS) conducted in 2011."

Output of CLSU in Munoz City Nueva Ecija needs to be exploited

Rizal Philippines   | September 6, 2014

Several years back, I was invited by a  business partner who is member of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce, upon invitation of then President GMA to find out business opportunities in  agriculture.  We thus visited CLSU and Phil Carabao Center and Philrice.  It was rather surprising that many of the work of CLSU have been unutilized by the rest of the agricultural community

We were surprised that a good % of what we consider beef are actually carabeef.  Our experience with carabao meat has been unpleasant because the law prescribes that only 13 year old or above carabaos can be slaughtered for meat.  But young carabaos from India are as good as any beef.

Welcome to the Food Security in the Philippines site

Two days ago, I was in Isabela, one of the places in the Philippines where there is plenty of rice.  However, people were lining up for cheaper NFA rice.

These are some issues to be tackled in this blog?

1.  Why should rice prices be high in a province that produces rice

2.  Why do we have to import rice when:

MIndoro, Iloilo, Mindanao, Isabela, Nueva Ecija, Cagayan, Isabela produce rice.  Well we have typhoons but nevertheless we can overcome this if we have planning of areas in the Phil that are not hit by typhoon
