Sweet potato, kamote can be grown vertically.   Sweet potato, is nutritious and is vaunted to be anti cancer (any root crop for that matter).   It is easy to grow, and can be grown at urban rooftop garden.

About two decades ago, a Batangueno lawyer with whom this post transacted a 1/2 hectare property which became a high end subdivision to some of our kin and officers chided the  Rizalenos for some of the idle lands he saw (including the one being transacted)

While Batanguenos prided themselves with 4 crops:

    1.   1 hectare of coconut

    2.   1 hectare of coffee

    3.   1 hectare of pepper

    4.    1 hectare of sitaw or talong

That makes the land 4x productive, and hence help stave of food scarcity.

Spacing of 1 meter, and drip irrigation, fertilization,  regular weeding. Soil must be kept  Moist  kept 4-6 weeks, 

Cassava can be harvested 10 months to 12 months, when there re few leaves at the top.   Some agri practices can shorten this to 6 months.   Yellow variety commands better prices and are heavier.

Ph should be kept at 4-7.    Acidic soil should be mixed with lime.   Overplanted fields must be planted to peanuts.

Harvesting can be done by harvester (costing  $20,000) or just with a flow but can damage the tubers.

This is increasingly seen as a alternative stapple food and rich source of carbohydrates.  It is nutritious, easy to grow and suits well the soil of Pamapanga, Tarlc and Zambales.   Its yield can be doubled to much productivity of cassava producing countries up to 20 tons/hectare
