"Food for every ones table and every homes"
From foresight - aquaculture in Malaysia
Aquaculture seems to be the answer to the growing food requirements of Malaysia. The catch in the natural surroundings which amount to 1.4 billion kg of fish has resulted in overfishing. While the population of Malaysia continues to grow, the production from regular fishing has been steady.
The answer would seem to be from aquaculture.
From World Fish Center - aquaculture in Laguna Lake
In the Philippines, thanks to SEAFDEC brought technology, the fishpens of Laguna de Bay now provides 60% of the fish requirements of MM. The fishpen culture has met the increasing demands of food requirements of MM whose population continues to grow.
So despite all the noise from the organics and naturalists, we should continue with aquaculture to support our food requirements.
The public sector has yet to balance the needs of small fishermen, and the need to supply food for the greater number of fishermen. In the past the govt has demolished hundreds of hectares of fishpens to favor the subsistence fisherfolk (the voters)
In the Philippines, the aquaculture production is 38% of total seafood. Seafood export is a major dollar earner for the Philippines
