In just a few years, their number all over the coutnry has grown to over a thousand. Their strategy: fewer inventories, no frills. But definitely they are the newest hub for food stuff you need every day: bread, coffee, drinks, eggs, bfast, water. They all but killled the sari sari store (save for the lista which you can only have at the sari sari store)
They are 7 days a week with services from 6:30 to 9:30 in the evening. I shop there for my house needs and bike rides.
The store model is from Germany (ALDI) and the investors are big multilateral institutions: ADB, IFC etc. The mother company is from Switzerland. They have their own brands: coffee, softdrinks and others. But the said business is incurring billions in losses. Is this sustainable?
The said store is an added help towards achieving food security and lessen the need for stockpiling.
